counselingAmerican counselors often make use of various meditation techniques in their clinical practice, most often mindfulness-based stress reduction and acceptance and commitment therapy. An article in the journal Counseling and Values presents other techniques, including Acem Meditation. Based on scientific studies that provide evidence for positive effects, the presented techniques are judged to be promising and useful. Common effects include relaxation, stress reduction and the reduction of negative psychological states, such as depression and anxiety. Read more…

The Telegraph“Which is better for your body: meditation or exercise?” asks The Telegraph journalist Jonathan Wells on 23 March 2016. “On the surface, it seems like an obvious decision – physical exercise can strengthen our muscles, bones and heart, and has been proven to promote the production of oxytonin and other ‘feel-good’ chemicals. Meditation for prisoners

“I feel more relaxed and calm, and my relationships with fellow prisoners have become easier,” says a participant at a beginner’s course in Acem Meditation in Spain. He recently also completed a follow-up course.

Tor teaching meditation Tor Hersoug has become used to teaching Acem Meditation to Spanish prisoners.

The course venue was Cuatre Camins, a prison outside Barcelona, with prisoners convicted of drug crimes, violence and murder. Read more…

When we meditate, we sometimes drift into worry and ruminations. The stream of thoughts can bring about various inner dialogues. At times we get into negative evaluations about how we meditate: “Am I doing it right now? Is this a free mental attitude? Am I repeating the meditation sound properly?” There is often a critical inner voice that speaks to us and governs our inner action during meditation. Read more…
