Travel tips after the World Retreat 2016
My wife Joy and I spent a week hiking in the Pyrenees last summer, in the Aigüestortes national park close to the site of next year’s World Retreat.
- Joy and I entered the Aigüestortes National Park from the Embassament de Cavallers.
- An eldorado for climbers. For us watching them was scary enough.
- The Black Lake when we arrived at Refugi Ventosa.
- The Black Lake at another time of day.
- The Black Lake as the morning sun was rising.
- The area is famous for its marmots.
- One of the smaller animals on our way.
- A lizard trying to get away from my camera.
- Different kinds of birds crossing the space above us.
- For such high mountains, there were surprisingly many flowers.
- This flower looked more alpine.
- As if the flowers grew out of stone!
- Flowers
- The mountain area is full of idyllic lakes.
- Colomèrs is one of the most popular cabins along the way.
- With more than 20ºC and sun, one would think that the snow would melt away…
- Trees grow at more than 2000 m, creating a varied scenery.
- The walk down to J. M. Blanc at “only” 2318 m is fantastic!
- Sunrise at Refugi J. M. Blanc.
- A different morning view of the lake.
- What’s the need for a mirror when you have the lake?
We took a taxi from the retreat centre to Cavallers further up the Boí Valley and started walking, following this route: Cavallers – Refugi Joan Ventosa i Calvell – Refugi de Colomèrs – Refugi Amitges – Refugi J. M. Blanc – – Refugi Estany Llong – Aigüestortes – and then a taxi down to Pont de Suert, to catch the bus for Barcelona. All in all a fantastic week, with not too long marches, but not too short either, and with a very varied scenery, and great weather throughout the week.

Not only majestic scenery but the flowers og birds appeal to me. Thank you for the teaser!
We live just on the other side of the border, in the French Pyrenées, where we host Equine Guided Meditation Retreats, and I can certainly confirm that there is loads to see and do in the area!
